CAMPUS SEXUAL ASSAULT: SAFETY FOR WOMEN, JUSTICE FOR MEN
We will hear from Title IX local experts on the current plans of the US Department of Education to replace the Obama-era recommendations for adjudicating college campus sexual assault, with new rules for Title IX enforcement. In July, 2017, AAUW National expressed our concern that this was a “blatant attempt to roll back the protections to students” and their civil rights under the guise of a more “balanced” approach.
When 20% of women college students are targets of attempted or completed sexual assault and nearly half of students in grades 7-12 report facing sexual harassment, we need to pay close attention to any changes in enforcement rules being proposed. Our speakers will explore the problem of the standards of evidence and adjudication under consideration and the importance of citizens’ comments on any proposed rule changes.
